29 Sep 2020	Adelaide team helps reopen reef Navy clearance divers have helped reopen access to Elizabeth Reef, one of the world’s most significant and biologically diverse coral reefs. The reef is situated within the Lord Howe Marine Park 550km from the New South Wales coastline. A team from Australian Clearance Diving Team One supported by ship’s company from HMAS Adelaide (III) and air support from an embarked MRH-90 helicopter, worked to locate and remove an unexploded ordnance from the reef at the request of Parks Australia. 29 Sep 2020	Final tribute for seafarers The ship’s company of HMAS Adelaide paid tribute to the lives of six fellow Royal Australian Navy and Royal Australian Navy Reserve seafarers as their ashes were committed to the sea. The ceremony was conducted by Chaplain Simote Finau as the ship transited from Elizabeth Reef, just off Lord Howe Island. Those remembered were Warrant Officer Garry Kopp, Chief Petty Officer Frederick Churn and his wife Amelia Churn, Leading Seaman Stoker Ernest Brown, Leading Seaman Airman Photographer John Watt, Able Seaman Barrie Bourke and Musician First Class Gordon Crompton. 28 Sep 2020	Bond with Singapore reaffirmed at 25th iteration of exercise The Australian and Singapore navies have reunited at sea for the 25th iteration of Exercise Singaroo. The biennial maritime exercise tests warfare skills, enhances interoperability and reinforces the strong friendship of the two nations. 26 Sep 2020	Chinese Navy Crafts Unmanned Sea Hunter Knock-off A candid photograph posted on Chinese social media sheds light on a Chinese project to develop an unmanned ship similar to the U.S. Navy’s Sea Hunter. The trimaran is remarkably similar to the Sea Hunter in almost every respect. 25 Sep 2020	'B' Block Completely Refurbished As part of the $500mil HMAS Cerberus Base Redevelopment Project, Building 188 or 'B' Block was completely refurbished. It has maintained its heritage facade on the eastern side whilst having a new contemporary facade on the western side of the building. 'B' Block is home to the Director Training Authority - Maritime Logistics & Health. This new transformed facility will provide training for Navy Sailors and Officers well into the future.
25 Sep 2020	Navy Indigenous Development Program 13 Graduation Ceremony The Navy Indigenous Development Program is a pathway program the Royal Australian Navy offer to young indigenous adults to assist them to attain the required standard to permanently enlist in the Australian Defence Force. The program has been running since 2014 and aligns with the Defence Reconciliation Action Plan (D-RAP) and the Australian Government’s agreement on Closing the Gap.
25 Sep 2020	“Value our People” - retirement ceremony initiative A Next Generation Navy (NGN) initiative to appropriately recognise the service and sacrifice of all Navy personnel and their families has seen the recent approval of formal retirement and discharge ceremonies. In response to the 2018 Navy Organisational and Cultural review measuring Navy’s culture and climate, NGN identified a greater need to recognise our personnel who honourably complete their service. 25 Sep 2020	The Pentagon is eyeing a 500-ship Navy, documents reveal The Pentagon’s upcoming recommendation for a future Navy is expected to call for a significant increase in the number of ships, with officials discussing a fleet as large as 530 hulls, according to documents obtained by Defense News. Supporting documents to the forthcoming Future Navy Force Study reviewed by Defense News show the Navy moving towards a lighter force with many more ships but fewer aircraft carriers and large surface combatants. Instead, the fleet would include more small surface combatants, unmanned ships and submarines and an expanded logistics force. More.....

21 Sep 2020	Cleanup on USS Bonhomme Richard Continues as Ship’s Fate Remains Unclear USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD-6) hasn’t moved from the pier-side spot where it caught fire on July 12 and burned for almost five days. The ship might not be moving anytime soon. Investigations into the fire have been extended until at least until December, USNI News understands, and with them any decisions about the fate of the ship. Still, with the ship still hot enough to need cool air pumped inside, the crew has settled into a new normal, spending their duty rotations helping clear out the amphibious assault ship and offload equipment that can be salvaged and put back into the Navy supply system. There are 48 students enrolled in this year’s pilot Program, prior to a larger intake of 250 students in 2021. 18 Sep 2020	Unmanned Vessels Will Allow the Navy to Reach 355-Ship Fleet Defense Secretary Mark Esper told sailors today that heavy investment in unmanned systems would be key to the U.S. Navy reaching 355 or more ships and having the lethality and survivability needed if a conflict were to break out with China. Speaking aboard USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) on Thursday morning, he told a few dozen sailors that “we’re investing a lot in unmanned vehicles, whether they are unmanned aircraft – and I see a vision of the future where every type of plane function that you see today on the deck would be, could be unmanned, should be unmanned. Her mother did not have a licence and as she could not travel to school, she was educated by Governesses until she went to boarding school at age 14. As dawn broke over Melbourne’s Shrine of Remembrance on Anzac Day 2018, war veterans gathered along St Kilda Road readying themselves for the annual march, their enthusiastic camaraderie warming the crisp, solemn autumn air. 07 Sep 2020	US Navy searching for missing Nimitz sailor in Arabian Sea The U.S. Navy is conducting search-and-rescue efforts Sunday in the Arabian Sea following reports of a missing sailor. The aircraft carrier Nimitz and guided-missile cruiser Princeton are conducting search-and-rescue operations, according to a news release from U.S. 5th Fleet Public Affairs. The sailor is listed as “Duty Status Whereabouts Unknown” onboard the Nimitz. The sailor’s name is being withheld in accordance with Navy policy.

Navy submariner and training instructor Petty Officer Gareth James is a member of HMAS Cerberus’ medical emergency team and was quick to volunteer to help. 01 Sep 2020	Australian Icebreaker RSV Nuyina at Damen Vlissingen Shipyard for Sea Trails Damen has been working on the Australian Antarctic Supply Research Vessel (ASRV) since 2016. A floating laboratory icebreaker that will carry out research in the Southern Oceans and around Antarctica. After the initial construction of RSV Nuyina at Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania, the ship is now undertaking final commissioning tests and being prepared for sea trials in Vlissingen, the Netherlands. Damen is building the vessel for Serco Group on behalf of the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD). RSV Nuyina will be one of the most advanced scientific research vessels in the world. More.....
01 Sep 2020	Multinational exercise Rim of the Pacific 2020 concludes The international maritime exercise Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2020 concluded Aug. 31 following two weeks of at-sea-only training events conducted around the Hawaiian Islands. This year’s event included 53 replenishment-at-sea events, 101 pallets of cargo distributed, over 16,000 rounds of small arms munitions shot, over 1,000 large caliber weapons fired, 13 missiles expended, and 1,100 pounds of mail delivered. 01 Sep 2020	RIMPAC 2020 Participants Conduct Sinking Exercise Live fire from ships and aircraft participating in the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise sank the decommissioned amphibious cargo ship ex-USS Durham (LKA 114), Aug. 30. The sinking exercise (SINKEX) provided participating units the opportunity to gain proficiency and confidence in their weapons and systems through realistic training that could not be duplicated in simulators.
