29 Apr 2014 HMAS Leeuwin boys reunite to lead Anzac Day march
Vietnam War infantry conscripts were often only 19, as Redgum's song reminds us. But a group of boys who enlisted in the navy around the same time were even younger - some aged just 15 years and 9 months when they signed up, voluntarily, to be sent to HMAS Leeuwin in Fremantle for training. That was 50 years ago, and the survivors of the 8th Intake at Leeuwin will have the honour of leading this year's Anzac Day march through the streets of Wollongong.  More.....

26 Apr 2014 HMAS Stuart remembers HMAS Sydney (II)
Officers and Sailors of HMAS Stuart have gathered on the ship's flight deck for a memorial service to remember the 725 lives lost in a battle on the 19th November 1941.  As Stuart passed near the final resting place of HMAS Sydney (II) and HSK Kormoran, members of ship's company remembered the battle vividly described by historians as Australia’s greatest wartime loss and worst naval disaster.  More.....
25 Apr 2014 Royal Australian Navy seizes record heroin
On the eve of Anzac Day commemorations, Royal Australian Navy frigate HMAS Darwin seized and destroyed more than one tonne of heroin. The record 1032 kilograms of heroin was discovered on board a dhow in the Indian Ocean, approximately 27 nautical miles east of Mombasa, Kenya.  More.....

The 25-member Royal Australian Navy counter terrorism taskforce, Combined Taskforce 150 (CTF150), returned to Australia today after a successful five month Middle East deployment, which resulted in the interdiction of significant amounts of drugs headed to fund violent and extremist organisations.  More.....

When General Entry 319, Emms Division, graduated from the Royal Australian Navy’s Recruit School at HMAS Cerberus recently, there was a very special guest in the audience whose presence made the graduates stand a little taller than usual. Mr David Manning, formerly Acting Able Seaman Manning of HMAS Perth (I), accepted an invitation to attend the graduation ceremony, making the short trip down from Ballarat.  More.....

NUSHIP Canberra's Ship's Company walked hundreds of kilometres over the past month, familiarising themselves with the Navy’s newest platform.  Twelve decks high and 230 metres in length, the ship’s company have had a taste of how big the learning curve is and how fit they need to be to navigate around the Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD), the largest ship ever built for Navy.  More.....

11 Apr 2014 HMAS Perth refuels with HMAS Success in southern Indian Ocean search zone
HMAS Perth has been given a helping hand HMAS Success during Replenishment at Sea in the southern Indian Ocean. Both ships are taking part in the search for Malaysia Airlines flight MH-370. Perth has been at sea for several weeks. The refuel provided each ship with the chance to undertake a well rehearsed routine, but one which is always full of potential challenges.  More.....

Well, it’s a real honour to be flanked by the service chiefs this morning and obviously today’s announcement is about the transition to new leadership in the Australian Defence Force. As of July, General Hurley will be retiring. Air Marshal Binskin will be taking over as the Chief of Defence Force. Admiral Griggs will be stepping up as the Vice Chief. Admiral Barrett will become Chief of Navy. General Morrison will continue for 12 months as Chief of Army and Air Marshal Brown will continue for 12 months as Chief of Air Force.  More.....

Defence recognises the unique demands of military service and we continue to learn from our experience of supporting wounded, injured and ill personnel. We are committed to the health and welfare of all our service men and women. Our support programs are based on research and data collected through studies such as the 2010 Australian Defence Force Mental Health Prevalence and Wellbeing Study. It is important to note that some of the statistics arising from this study are complex. The figures in the article ‘Haunted by hidden wounds’ (Sunday Telegraph, 30 March 2014) reflect some inaccuracies compared to statistics that underpin Defence’s comprehensive approach and resourcing towards mental health.  More.....

2014 - 2018

The Anzac Centenary (2014 – 2018) will shine a spotlight on the commitment and sacrifice of those who served in the First World War.

Across Victoria, there will be a number of commemorative events marking key dates throughout the Centenary.


OCTOBER 2015

ANZAC Naval Commemorative Ball - 17 October 2015
The Naval Commemorative Committee Victoria, invite all serving ADF personnel, Australian and Allied Veterans along with family and friends, to attend the ANZAC Naval Commemorative Ball on Saturday 17 October 2015 at (New Venue) The Atrium, Flemington Racecourse, 448 Epsom Rd, Flemington (10 Minutes from the CBD).  Dance to the Music of the RAN Dance Band.  The Ball is open to all serving and former members of the ADF, NZDF, Reserves, Cadets, families, friends, Police, Emergency Services, our Allies and the General Public.
