In September 2013 many Tall Ships visited Melbourne to attend the Melbourne Tall Ships Festival. 16 Sep 2013 'Professionalism and skill' displayed by Navy crew to save stricken sailors at Christmas Island, says ATSB report
An Australian Transport Safety Bureau report into the sinking of a merchant ship at Christmas Island in January 2012 has found that two Royal Australian Navy crews embarked in HMA Ships Leeuwin and Maryborough displayed ‘professionalism and skill’ while helping the merchant sailors abandon their stricken vessel.  More.....
16 Sep 2013 HMAS Yarra (II) Unit Citation for Gallantry Investiture Ceremony - 4 March 2014
On the 22nd of March 2013 the Governor-General, Her Excellency the Honourable Quentin Bryce AC CVO announced the award of a Unit Citation for Gallantry (UCG) to the crew of HMAS Yarra (II) “for extraordinary gallantry in action off Singapore on the 5th of February 1942 and in the Indian Ocean on the 4th of March 1942”.  Families of the crew of HMAS Yarra (II) are invited to apply to receive an individual UCG insignia or dress insignia (a gilt rectangular frame surrounding a deep green ribbon) on behalf of their qualifying family member. 08 Sep 2013 Canberra command team gets taste of driving an LHD
NUSHIP Canberra's Command Team have had their first taste of raw LHD ship-handling, albeit at 1:20 scale.  Commanding Officer NUSHIP Canberra, Captain Jonathan Sadleir AM, Executive Officer, Commander Jonathan Earley and Navigating Officer, Lieutenant Commander Calvin Johnson, spent four days in August at the Australian Ship Handling Centre - Port Ash Australia near Newcastle, practicing and honing their LHD ship-handling skills on the purpose built model, NUSHIP Assault.  More.....

01 Sep 2013 Recruit School Division named after Noel Shipp
The ‘Shipp Division’ naming ceremony took place at HMAS Cerberus, on Thursday 29 August 2013.  It honours Leading Aircrewman Noel Shipp, who was part of the RAN Helicopter Flight Vietnam (RANHFV) who was killed in action, whilst serving as a door-gunner, on 31 May 1969.  More.....

2014 - 2018

The Anzac Centenary (2014 – 2018) will shine a spotlight on the commitment and sacrifice of those who served in the First World War.

Across Victoria, there will be a number of commemorative events marking key dates throughout the Centenary.


OCTOBER 2015

ANZAC Naval Commemorative Ball - 17 October 2015
The Naval Commemorative Committee Victoria, invite all serving ADF personnel, Australian and Allied Veterans along with family and friends, to attend the ANZAC Naval Commemorative Ball on Saturday 17 October 2015 at (New Venue) The Atrium, Flemington Racecourse, 448 Epsom Rd, Flemington (10 Minutes from the CBD).  Dance to the Music of the RAN Dance Band.  The Ball is open to all serving and former members of the ADF, NZDF, Reserves, Cadets, families, friends, Police, Emergency Services, our Allies and the General Public.
