27 May 2013	VALE - ex-LTO Garry Pyke, R94102, succumbed to his battle with cancer and passed away on 15 May 2013. Garry wrote a poem 'The Long Wait' and dedicated it to his wife, Lea. Many of our members, having spent many months travelling back and forwards to Vietnam and to the Far East, will associate with his words. 13 May 2013	CN Gets first hand view of future of Navy Fleet Air Arm Chief of Navy, VADM Ray Griggs, RAN recently toured North America and one of his first ports of call was Jacksonville Florida, where Fleet Air Arm Personnel are conducting Initial MH-60R Seahawk Trade and Operational Flying Training. VADM Griggs was given an insight into the latest training facilities at NAS Mayport and experienced first hand the full capability this aircraft will deliver for the RAN. More.....

12 May 2013	Naval Gazing at HMAS Cerberus Students from Rosebud, Dromana and Padua Secondary Colleges in the South Eastern suburbs of Victoria visited HMAS Cerberus for an inside look at the Royal Australian Navy’s largest training establishment. Students from around Melbourne have been visiting HMAS Cerberus for six years under the ‘Naval Gazing’ program, designed to offer secondary and tertiary students the chance to gain first hand knowledge of Navy careers, training and lifestyle. 11 May 2013	HMAS Shepparton helps uncover stories from the past During the last 12 months HMA Ships Shepparton and Benalla have been involved with hydrographic surveys in and around Torres Strait. Their focus has been to achieve high order surveys for Australian Maritime Safety Authority's (AMSA) Under Keel Clearance Management System. A challenge given the relatively confined nature of the strait, the high density traffic confined to the routes and channels, strong tidal streams and often unforgiving weather impacting the quality of the data. 10 May 2013	Minister for Defence Materiel chairs Projects of Concern Summit Minister for Defence Materiel Dr Mike Kelly AM MP has concluded a two-day summit with senior Defence officials and CEOs of defence industry companies that have projects on the Projects of Concern list. Dr Kelly said the purpose of the summit was to review remediation plans of each Project of Concern, discuss progress since the last summit in November 2012 and assess prospects for removal from the Projects of Concern list. My visit to Tonga is the first by an Australian Minister for Defence. The Anzac Centenary (2014 – 2018) will shine a spotlight on the commitment and sacrifice of those who served in the First World War.

Across Victoria, there will be a number of commemorative events marking key dates throughout the Centenary.

ANZAC Naval Commemorative Ball - 17 October 2015
The Naval Commemorative Committee Victoria, invite all serving ADF personnel, Australian and Allied Veterans along with family and friends, to attend the ANZAC Naval Commemorative Ball on Saturday 17 October 2015 at (New Venue) The Atrium, Flemington Racecourse, 448 Epsom Rd, Flemington (10 Minutes from the CBD). Dance to the Music of the RAN Dance Band. The Ball is open to all serving and former members of the ADF, NZDF, Reserves, Cadets, families, friends, Police, Emergency Services, our Allies and the General Public.
