07 Jun 2013 Minister for Veterans Affair - Statement
An ABC 730 story, aired on Thursday 6 June 2013, contained a number of serious factual inaccuracies, most seriously the claim that a person does not have access to treatment while they are awaiting the resolution of a claim. This is incorrect and irresponsible reporting. The journalist refused to interview a DVA mental health expert on a number of occasions before the piece was aired. Contrary to claims in the 730 piece, there are immediate and direct ways for veterans to access care, without the need to lodge a compensation claim.  More.....
06 Jun 2013 Letter to the Editor – Herald Sun

Dear Mr Johnston,
I am writing to express my disappointment at the article Digger shame – 34 sent home in disgrace published in the Herald Sun on 6 June 2013. The vast majority of ADF personnel serve on overseas deployments with pride and distinction. More.....
06 Jun 2013 Extreme Medicine: Just another day for Naval Medical Teams at Sea
Being self-sufficient for months on end in a remote environment is the name of the game for doctors and medics serving in warships of the Royal Australian Navy. When it comes to facing and overcoming challenges of just about any kind, this has got to be one of the most demanding, and satisfying, fields to operate in. This is what Dr Luke Edwards found when he joined the guided missile frigate HMAS Sydney for a five month deployment, which will see the ship embed with the US Navy’s 7th Fleet in Japan.  More.....

01 Jun 2013 Voluntary Work
How news travels quickly – I have had four enquiries to date regarding what constitutes “unpaid work". There is no legislative definition of voluntary work in the scores of various Act and Regulations that effect military pensions. However in policy terms, voluntary work is defined as unpaid work for a recognized community or welfare organization. Voluntary work for a recognized community or welfare organization does necessarily mean that the person has the capacity to do paid work. More.....
