Sale of 12,000 retired Army vehicles

Minister for Defence Materiel Jason Clare today announced that contract negotiations for the sale of up to 12,000 Army non-combat vehicles and trailers are now complete. “The vehicles will be sold by Australian National Disposals, a new Australian-owned business based in New South Wales,” Mr Clare said. Mr Clare said sale of the vehicles gives Australians a chance to buy their own part of Australian military history. More.....
29 Jan 2013 Sale of Navy Sea King helicopters
Minister for Defence Materiel Jason Clare today announced that the Navy’s remaining Sea King helicopters will be sold to Aerospace Logistics (ASL). “Aerospace Logistics have over 30 years experience as an international specialist in the supply, refurbishment, exchange, maintenance, repair and overhaul of aircraft parts,” Mr Clare said. ASL will use the Sea King inventory to sustain and support capability of international military and search and rescue fleets. More.....

24 Jan 2013 HMA Ships Yarra & Huon Open Day
Two of Navy’s Mine Hunter Fleet will arrive in Newcastle on Friday 25th January to take part in this weekend’s Newcastle Maritime Festival Celebrations. It’s a homecoming of sorts for HMA Ships Huon and Yarra which were built by Australian Defence Industries, now Thales, in Newcastle, with the first of class delivered in 1999. More.....
24 Jan 2013 Navy ship HMAS Sirius to visit Hobart
Navy support ship, HMAS Sirius will visit Hobart this afternoon for a four-day operational port visit. The ship will arrive in Hobart at approximately 3pm and will berth at Macquarie Wharf. Commanding Officer of HMAS Sirius Commander Brian Delamont said that he and the ship’s company were sad to hear news of the recent bushfires which affected the Tasmanian community. More.....

At 10:30 on Friday 18 January there was a change in Command at the Australian Hydrographic Office in Wollongong. Commodore Rod Nairn, AM, RAN stepped down as Australia’s longest serving Hydrographer and was relieved by Commodore Brett Brace, RAN. More.....
24 Jan 2013 Navy spearheads 2012 Long Tan awards
The thunderous applause of 600 Muslim students was more than Navy Marine Engineer LEUT Rachel Bobko bargained for when she went to the Al-Faisal College in Sydney to present Long Tan Leadership and Teamwork Awards. “I didn’t know what to expect and was overwhelmed by their warm welcome,” LEUT Bobko, who is posted to HMAS Kuttabul, said. 24 Jan 2013 First blocks for second AWD delivered to Adelaide
Minister for Defence Materiel Jason Clare today announced that the Air Warfare Destroyer Alliance has taken delivery of the first blocks from Melbourne for the second air warfare destroyer, Brisbane. Mr Clare said the two blocks, manufactured by BAE Systems, arrived into Adelaide by tug and barge from Williamstown, Victoria. More.....

Parliamentary Secretary for Defence Dr Mike Kelly addressed the United Nations Security Council in New York on Monday, before the 15-member body unanimously endorsed a resolution calling for a “multidimensional approach” to peacekeeping—the first such resolution in more than 10 years. More.....

22 Jan 2013 Cantabria set for adventure on the high seas en route to Australia
Two weeks into a 12 month deployment, ESPS Cantabria and her embarked 12 person RAN DET have been busy navigating their way through the Mediterranean Sea, Suez Canal and Red Sea en route to Australia. The principle objectives of Cantabria’s year long deployment to Australia is to provide afloat support to RAN vessels and opportunities for individual training, including familiarization of RAN personnel on some of the common systems which will be fitted to the RAN’s new LHD and AWD platforms. 21 Jan 2013 HELPING TO EASE THE COST OF EDUCATION FOR VETERANS’ FAMILIES
The families of eligible veterans and former serving members will receive extra financial support to help their kids start the school year with the first payment of the Schoolkids Bonus. 21 Jan 2013 Public consultation for the proposed removal of the Hammerhead Crane, Garden Island, NSW
Defence will conduct a period of public consultation for the proposed removal of the Hammerhead Crane located at Fleet Base East, Garden Island in Sydney, from Monday 21 January to Monday 18 February 2013. The proposal to remove the crane is being assessed under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). While not heritage listed, the crane is known to have Commonwealth Heritage values and is located outside the Commonwealth Heritage Listed Garden Island precinct. More.....

As cuts to the Defence budget under Labor continue to grow past $25b, it is perhaps little wonder why the Minister for Defence, Stephen Smith, has shirked radio interviews on the subject in his home town of Perth. After a successful six-month deployment conducting maritime security and interception operations. in the Middle East Area of Operations HMAS Anzac (III) is heading home to Australia for some well deserved leave. The Royal Australian Navy frigate is heading home to Fleet Base East in Sydney after patrolling waters from the Red and Arabian Seas to the Gulfs of Aden, Oman, Aqaba and the Straits of Hormuz and Bab-Al-Mandeb. The beginning of 2013 signals six months since the Gillard Labor Government handed down its last budget, which saw $5.5b cut from Defence. Now the pinch is on ADF Reservists as they start to feel the full effect of reduced training days. 09 Jan 2013 ESPS Cantabria Deployment
On 3rd January 2013 the Combat Replenishment Ship Cantabria left La Graña Naval Port in Spain for a one year deployment to Australia. Admiral Jaime Muñoz-Delgado (Spanish Navy Chief of Staff) and Admiral Santiago Bolivar (Admiral of the Fleet) attended the emotive farewell ceremony. During his speech, Admiral Muñoz-Delgado stressed the significance of the deployment and set the course for its conduct, stressing the importance of Safety and security and the welfare of the crew. 07 Jan 2013 Australian Operational Service Medal (OSM)
Australian Defence Force (ADF) Members

The OSM has been introduced to replace the Australian Active Service Medal (AASM) and Australian Service Medal for future ADF operations. The OSM will be awarded to ADF members for service on operations recommended and approved as warranting recognition. Each declared operation will be recognised by the standard medal with a unique ribbon for each operation in the same way as the United Nations Medal is awarded. Where appropriate, an accumulated service device will recognise those who render additional prescribed periods of service on a particular operation. More.....

The Anzac Centenary (2014 – 2018) will shine a spotlight on the commitment and sacrifice of those who served in the First World War.

Across Victoria, there will be a number of commemorative events marking key dates throughout the Centenary.

ANZAC Naval Commemorative Ball - 17 October 2015
The Naval Commemorative Committee Victoria, invite all serving ADF personnel, Australian and Allied Veterans along with family and friends, to attend the ANZAC Naval Commemorative Ball on Saturday 17 October 2015 at (New Venue) The Atrium, Flemington Racecourse, 448 Epsom Rd, Flemington (10 Minutes from the CBD).  Dance to the Music of the RAN Dance Band.  The Ball is open to all serving and former members of the ADF, NZDF, Reserves, Cadets, families, friends, Police, Emergency Services, our Allies and the General Public.
