27 May 2012 Australian Navy Joins the Republic of Korea for Inaugural Maritime Exercise

The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Warren Snowdon, today encouraged Australians to recognise the contribution Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and women have made in serving the country, during National Reconciliation Week, 27 May – 3 June 2012. Mr Snowdon said Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander sailors, soldiers, airmen and women have been part of Australia’s wartime history dating back to the Boer War. More.....

Fostering a better understanding of how we operate in the maritime environment was the aim of the Passage Exercise (PASSEX) conducted between HMAS Ballarat (Commander Jonathan Earley) and the People’s Revolutionary Army – Navy frigate Anqing (LCDR Hu Jinchun) at the mouth of the Yangtze River on 21 May 12. 24 May 2012  Australian Navy visits Victoria, Canada
HMAS Perth has reaffirmed close Australian Defence ties to Canada with a visit to the Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt in Victoria, Canada. The visit by the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) ANZAC Class frigate coincided with Canada’s Victoria Day. A contingent of HMAS Perth sailors were honoured to march ahead of the Royal Canadian Navy at the annual Esquimalt Victoria Day Parade. More.....

The Australian Defence Force (ADF) is helping to improve regional capacity to respond to natural and humanitarian emergencies. On 22 May, ADF personnel departed Australia for their deployment as part of Pacific Partnership 2012. These personnel represent the Command and Medical Specialist contribution to the exercise. 21 May 2012 WO Marty Grogan in New Zealand for Presentation
It is my great honour to be here today to present a very significant item to the Chief of the NZ Navy for the NZN Heritage Collection. This exquisite South American wooden tray is inlaid with hundreds of South American butterflies.
This particular tray was one of four presented by the grateful citizens of Uruguay after the Battle of the River Plate in December 1939. This was the first major Naval engagement of the Second World War and resulted in the defeat of the German pocket battleship, Graf Spee. More.....

The Australian Defence Force has provided specialist medical support for the Role 3 Medical Facility at Kandahar. Eight health professionals deployed to Afghanistan in early May 2012, with a further eight to rotate in later this year. More.....

The Australian Defence Force and the Tentara Nasional Indonesia (Indonesian Armed Forces) successfully conduct the third Coordinated Maritime Security Patrol in the waters between Australia and Indonesia from 16-27 April 2012. The coordinated patrol was designed to mutually enhance maritime security in the Timor Sea and targeted the exploitation of natural resources, in particular illegal fishing. View the video.....

2014 - 2018

The Anzac Centenary (2014 – 2018) will shine a spotlight on the commitment and sacrifice of those who served in the First World War.

Across Victoria, there will be a number of commemorative events marking key dates throughout the Centenary.


OCTOBER 2015

ANZAC Naval Commemorative Ball - 17 October 2015
The Naval Commemorative Committee Victoria, invite all serving ADF personnel, Australian and Allied Veterans along with family and friends, to attend the ANZAC Naval Commemorative Ball on Saturday 17 October 2015 at (New Venue) The Atrium, Flemington Racecourse, 448 Epsom Rd, Flemington (10 Minutes from the CBD).  Dance to the Music of the RAN Dance Band.  The Ball is open to all serving and former members of the ADF, NZDF, Reserves, Cadets, families, friends, Police, Emergency Services, our Allies and the General Public.
