22 June 2012 CALLING ON THE VETERAN COMMUNTIY TO SHOW SOME ARTISTIC FLAIR
With one month until entries close, the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Warren Snowdon, today encouraged the Victorian veteran community to tap into their creative side and take part in the 50th annual Story Writing and Art Competition. Meeting with past years’ winners at the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital in Victoria today, Minister Snowdon said the competition provided a great avenue for veterans and their families to share their artistic talents with the community. 22 June 2012 The Blue Marlin, the Heavy Lift Vessel, which will be used to transport the first LHD hull has arrived at Fene Wharf at Ferrol, Spain. The journey will take approximately 49 days in total and includes two days to float on and two days to float off. Arrival Port Phillip Bay early September. Lots of work at the shipyard happening to get everything ready. These ships will certainly cast a big shadow over Williamstown. Go to Gallery to view photos.

The 2012 Victorian Reserve Officers Ladies Dining In Night will be held on Friday 16 November(see calendar for full details) at University House, Melbourne University. This function is run in a similar manner to a Navy mess dinner and the cost of $80 per head includes a three-course dinner with drinks.

01 Jun 2012 VETERANS WARNED OF POTENTIAL SCAMS
Veterans have been approached by scam artists claiming to represent the Australian Government, Secretary of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs Mr Ian Campbell said today. Mr Campbell said the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) had been made aware of several approaches to members of the veteran community asking for personal information in order to receive assistance under the Government’s Household Assistance Package. 01 Jun 2012 Essential Medical Equipment Payment
The Essential Medical Equipment Payment is an annual payment of $140 to support those with higher than average energy costs because they rely on essential medical equipment at home. The payment can be claimed through DVA by completing and submitting a claim form, available on the DVA website and at Veterans’ Access Network offices from 18 June 2012. The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Warren Snowdon, today paid tribute to the crucial role peacekeepers play in restoring peace to countries torn by conflict and the many Australian servicemen and women who have been a part of these peacekeeping efforts. Anzac Centenary Events
2014 - 2018

The Anzac Centenary (2014 – 2018) will shine a spotlight on the commitment and sacrifice of those who served in the First World War.

Across Victoria, there will be a number of commemorative events marking key dates throughout the Centenary.


OCTOBER 2015

ANZAC Naval Commemorative Ball - 17 October 2015
The Naval Commemorative Committee Victoria, invite all serving ADF personnel, Australian and Allied Veterans along with family and friends, to attend the ANZAC Naval Commemorative Ball on Saturday 17 October 2015 at (New Venue) The Atrium, Flemington Racecourse, 448 Epsom Rd, Flemington (10 Minutes from the CBD).  Dance to the Music of the RAN Dance Band.  The Ball is open to all serving and former members of the ADF, NZDF, Reserves, Cadets, families, friends, Police, Emergency Services, our Allies and the General Public.
