THE ADF WORKPLACE REMUNERATION ARRANGEMENT 2011 – 2014 David Jamison, the National President of DFWA expressed deep disappointment with the ADF Workplace Arrangement outcome because it will effectively strip ADF members and their families of purchasing power over the next three years. He went on to state that despite 62% of those ADF members polled not supporting it the decision, resulting from the Commonwealth and ADF jointly developing its provisions and putting an “agreed case” before the Defence Remuneration Tribunal, was imposed on them. Update on the Death of HMAS Warramunga Sailor The Royal Australian Navy can confirm that the member of HMAS Warramunga’s crew who passed away while ashore on leave in Cambodia on 10 November 2011, was Leading Seaman Boatswain’s Mate Bradley William Livingston. The 33 year old’s family is continuing to be provided with support by Navy and the Defence Community Organisation. The family has requested the media respect their privacy at this time. Two members of the ADF Investigative Service are now in Cambodia to investigate the death and it would be inappropriate to comment further until that investigation has been completed. |

Military rifles and machine guns on offer to RSLs and
museums for preservation. Minister for Defence Materiel Jason Clare today released a Request for Offer (RFO) for up to 90 L1A1 Self Loading Rifles (SLRs) and 40 M60D Machine Guns. By Rear Admiral Brian Adams AO, RAN (rtd) Over nearly 25 years, between January 1960 and December 1984, approximately 13,000 15 and 16 year old boys joined the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) as junior recruits – a group the size of our current Navy workforce. The world of the ‘JRs’, as they were called, was often a very different one from the modern entry processes to the RAN.
