26 Mar 2012 New Defence satellite launched to support troops in the Middle East
Minister for Defence Materiel Jason Clare today announced that a new Defence satellite was successfully launched in Kazakhstan overnight which will improve communications abilities for Australian Defence Force personnel operating in the Middle East. The satellite was successfully launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 11.10pm last night. The launch of the IS-22 satellite was managed by Intelsat – an international satellite service provider.

24 Mar 2012 HMAS Choules Exercise Squadex
Exercise SQUADEX, conducted in waters off Townsville and Cowley Beach in North Queensland, is the first of a series of two exercises in which Australia's newest ship, HMAS Choules, conducts amphibious and flying operations with elements of the Australian Army. 16 Mar 2012 Veterans Retreat
The “Murraguldrie Veterans Retreat” in the Murraguldrie State Forest and is managed and operated by the VV South West NSW & Wagga Inc. The sub-branch committee manages the retreat and arranges Working Bees and the general maintenance schedule. The retreat is funded through Visitor donations and at the present time some sub-branch money as well as DVA grants for major projects; so all donations received from those that use the retreat are spent on the retreat.

Veterans’ Children’s Education Assistance Schemes Undermined

On 1 January 2012, Centrelink benefits for eligible 16 to 19 year old students at secondary school were increased. However, payments for the children of veterans receiving the same benefits under Veterans Affairs assistance schemes received no increase. This failure was surprising, even astounding.

The 2010 initiative of compiling and forwarding regular National President's Newsletters to State and Territory Branch Presidents improved the flow of information from the National Office to Branches, Districts, Sub Branches and Members - but has generally worked well in keeping us all informed on current issues. I am of the view that it is now time to extend the coverage of the newsletter so that our broader membership is similarly kept informed. More.....

The Minister for the Arts, The Hon Simon Crean MP, has advised that the National Capital Authority has approved the Boer War Memorial design proposed by the National Boer War Memorial Association. The memorial will be an inspired design of Australian troopers mounted on war horses breaking through the trees of ANZAC Parade Canberra.

ANZAC Naval Commemorative Ball - 17 October 2015
The Naval Commemorative Committee Victoria, invite all serving ADF personnel, Australian and Allied Veterans along with family and friends, to attend the ANZAC Naval Commemorative Ball on Saturday 17 October 2015 at (New Venue) The Atrium, Flemington Racecourse, 448 Epsom Rd, Flemington (10 Minutes from the CBD).  Dance to the Music of the RAN Dance Band.  The Ball is open to all serving and former members of the ADF, NZDF, Reserves, Cadets, families, friends, Police, Emergency Services, our Allies and the General Public.
